This project started in 2004 with design and construction phase services for a two level precast concrete garage at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH. This original Lot F parking structure was built in 2005 and offered space for up to 470 vehicles. In 2008 a third level to the garage was designed but not built.
In 2013 GZA was asked by Concord Hospital to update the 2008 plans, provide construction phase services and perform Special Inspections for the third level addition to the existing two-level structure. The construction involved deconstructing a number of precast elements from the existing second level, installing new third level precast components and then reinstalling the previously deconstructed elements. The complexity of this work and the tight project schedule presented a challenge for GZA’s engineering team.
GZA met this challenge and was asked to perform additional work outside the original scope of work. The additional work included:
- Assessment of underground structures to accommodate loads imposed by a 300 ton crane during precast erection
- Review and analysis of contractor proposals for conformance to contract documents
- Framing design for supporting the glass curtain wall in the stairwell
The project was completed successfully and on schedule to the satisfaction of the owner and construction manager.
