Stormwater Lesson for STREAMSS Village Summer Science Camp

Rosalie Starvish and Jen Burke (GZA Springfield) recently did a half day presentation and “field trip” for campers in the Town of Milford’s (MA) STREAMSS Village Summer Science Camp to teach them about stormwater.  They gave an hour presentation and demonstration to teach kids about stormwater and stormwater pollution and then did a walk around the school campus to show them stormwater features and let them help us map a watershed and determine potential pollution sources.

Thirty years ago, I published an article, “Environmental Auditing; To Know or Not to Know” about the pros and cons of owner/operators understanding their compliance status.  Ignorance of the law may not be the best legal defense, but it was believed to be some sort of defense and not knowing helped some site managers sleep better.  A similar question is now being asked around the country concerning so-called Emerging Contaminants.
