Climate Adaptation Analysis and Planning

Climate Adaptation and Coastal Resiliency Plans provide States and communities with a road map to plan for, prioritize and implement measures to create long term resiliency.

These plans often complement Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans, but with a specific focus on climate change and resiliency. GZA assists our clients with preparation of these plans. GZA brings to these projects specialized expertise in characterizing hazards, such as flooding, under future climate change scenarios and time horizons.

Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans

Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans:

1) identify the actions and policies that can be implemented over the long term to reduce risk and future losses; and 2) form the foundation for a long-term risk management strategy.  The plans create the framework for risk-informed decision making to reduce damages to lives, property, and the economy from future disasters.  For States and communities, the development of Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans is also a requirement to be eligible for FEMA mitigation grants.

Post-Fukushima Flood Studies U.S. Nuclear Power Plants throughout the United States

GZA evaluated flood hazards at 23 U.S. nuclear power plants after a directive was issued to the nuclear power industry by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), prompted by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that triggered a nuclear accident at the Fukushima, Japan plant.

CHALLENGE
The NRC issued a three-year deadline by which all U.S. nuclear plants were required to re-evaluate their flood vulnerability.
