Environmental Risk Management

GZA’s risk assessment specialists work in concert with our engineering staff to identify ecological and human populations potentially at risk as a result of an existing condition or a proposed activity and then quantify these risks to meet regulatory or business objectives.

In the regulatory arena, the process and end points are frequently dictated.  What GZA brings to these situations is the experience of having worked with the models routinely used by the EPA and those states that have adopted risk-based programs.  Working knowledge of these models allows GZA to design defensible sampling programs which can lead to remedial decisions which are protective and cost effective.

Understanding and management of risk is frequently not a regulatory mandate but rather a core business consideration.  When redeveloping a brownfield, the development concept must be absolutely convincing to lenders and future site uses that environmental exposure risks are acceptable for the project to be viable.  When construction begins on a dirty site, the contractor and owner both want data to help the control exposures and defend themselves against third party suites.  And finally, in those cases where a claim is made, the defendant needs an expert in his/her corner to convince the court what really happened.

GZA services to accomplish these tasks include:
  • Ecological surveys
  • Risk assessments
  • Certified Industrial Hygienists
  • Toxicologists
  • Ambient Air Monitoring Deployment and Support
