Bridges/Highways

Bridges and Highways are the backbone of America’s transportation system, carrying the bulk of the nation’s business and personal travel. Many of the nation’s major roadways are in fair to poor condition and many bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. GZA helps Owners by designing pragmatic solutions that look at the possibilities of reusing existing substructures and widening existing structures and roadways, if possible, as well as new bridge foundations and highway embankments.

Many bridges and highways cross waterways and wetlands. GZA’s engineers and scientists are experienced with local, state and federal regulations governing protection of wetlands and water resources. GZA also provides expertise for measuring stresses in existing bridges; ground improvement to support structures and embankments without the use of deep foundations; integrity testing of new and existing foundations; load testing foundations; instrumentation with automated data acquisition systems; and environmental assessments.
