Air Quality Modeling Services

GZA provides air quality modeling services for a variety of litigation situations including assessing the impacts of toxic air pollutant emissions, performing risk assessments, evaluating plume visibility, evaluating the nuisance potential from icing and fogging from cooling towers, and evaluating compliance with air standards where modeling may have not been required by the regulatory agency. GZA can provide these services as a primary evaluation tool or as a means of confirming the work performed by others. GZA has experience with a number of models, including AERMOD, SACTI, ALOHA, SCREEN3, VISCREEN and others. GZA ‘s air quality experts can also provide technical review of air quality modeling and impact assessments performed by others without incurring the expense of performing additional modeling.

Groundwater Quality Modeling Services

In its simplest form, groundwater modeling involves understanding the past, present or future movement of groundwater and perhaps groundwater contaminants. GZA has an array of computer codes that allow clients to understand complex groundwater and contaminant migration patterns. We also use these tools to present solutions in graphical, 3-dimensional, and animated formats that are easily understood by the layperson, and are rigorous enough to meet the standards established by Regulatory Agencies and the 1993 Daubert case (Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc.).

We provide a variety of modeling services ranging from relatively simple two dimensional flow simulations, to three dimensional contaminant transport, to vadose zone (unsaturated) flow. We take pride in selecting an appropriate model that considers: Site conditions, project needs, and time and budget constraints. To assist in model development/presentation we frequently use modeling software in conjunction with other programs (e.g. AutoCAD, GIS, Access, EnviroData, etc.).

We have used groundwater models for studies involving:
  • Contaminant source identification
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Remedial alternative development
  • Exposure reconstruction/risk assessment
  • Multiphase flow and transport
  • Groundwater/surface water interaction evaluation
  • Water supply
  • Wellhead delineation
  • Building, tunnel and mine dewatering
  • Uncertainty evaluation
  • Public communications
  • Expert Opinion and Testimony
