NORWOOD MA…ISSUED AUGUST, 2018… GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), a leading environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, announces that Matthew Taylor of Wrentham, Massachusetts has been promoted to Principal, operating from the firm’s Metro Boston/Norwood office.
Mr. Taylor, a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, has served as a consulting geotechnical engineer on an array of projects ranging from dam rehabilitation to forensic evaluations to construction administration. With GZA for 11 years, Mr. Taylor currently serves as the leader of the GZA’s Metro Boston office Dam and Levee Safety Group.
His areas of technical specialization include dam and levee safety engineering, dam safety inspections, potential failure mode analyses, seepage and slope stability analyses, subsurface investigations, development on contract drawings and specifications, environmental permitting, construction oversight, and grant applications.
Mr. Taylor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and his Master of Science degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Northeastern University. In 2013, he received the Ernest A. Herzog Award from the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section.
He is co-chair of the Dam Management Committee of the Environmental Business Council and is a member and past-chair of the Geo-Institute of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Association of State Dam Safety Officials, United States Society on Dams, and Society of American Military Engineers.
Outside of work, Mr. Taylor is the head coach of his son’s 2020 club lacrosse team, is an assistant coach for his daughter’s town lacrosse team, and plays weekly in a men’s lacrosse league.
