GZA's engineers and geologists perform seismic and earthquake engineering analyses for private and public clients for buildings, power plants (including over 10 nuclear power plants), bridges, highways, dams and tunnels.
Our services include:
Development of Dynamic Subsurface Profile and Material Properties. GZA designs and implements subsurface and laboratory test programs to establish the dynamic soil and bedrock profile and material properties for use in site response analyses.
Seismic Hazard Analysis. GZA performs site specific analyses including both deterministic and probabilistic hazard assessments and linear and non-linear ground response analyses to vertically propagating shear waves. Site specific hazard analyses often result in cost savings relative to conventional "code-based" designs.
Soil Liquefaction Analyses. GZA performs analyses to evaluate liquefaction potential, lateral spreading and seismically-induced settlement.
Seismic Slope Stability. GZA evaluates the stability of earth and bedrock slopes subject to static and earthquake loads. Analyses are performed using both limit equilibrium and numerical (finite element and finite difference) methods. Analyses are also performed using statistical measures (reliability analyses) to evaluate uncertainties and quantify the probability of slope failure. Displacement and residual strength analyses are also performed where low seismic stability factors of safety are calculated.
Seismic Risk Mitigation. GZA designs ground improvement programs to mitigate liquefaction, settlement and stability failures resulting from earthquakes.
