Daniel Stapleton, P.E. will speak at the SAME Narragansett Bay Post's January Luncheon on January 21, 2014 (10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). He will speak on "Facility Flood Vulnerability Assessment"
Recent storms such as “Superstorm” Sandy have again demonstrated the vulnerability of critical infrastructure and facilities to flooding. Computer modeling software such as ADCIRC and Flo2D help engineers, owners, and regulators visualize the impacts of coastal and riverine flooding. State-of-the-art techniques for synthetic storm generation can also supplement historical data to facilitate modeling of very low probability and high consequence events. These tools and techniques will be described along with their capacity to assist in effective natural disaster preparedness, risk-informed decision making about flood vulnerability of critical infrastructure and facilities, and flood mitigation design.
