At a Glance
The Long Island Sound Community Impact Fund (LISCIF), a partnership among Restore America’s Estuaries, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Long Island Sound Partnership, has announced that up to $1,200,000 in competitive funding will be available in 2027 to support projects in New York and Connecticut. Applications are open until November 20th.
The Fund provides technical and financial assistance to communities and organizations working to address environmental issues, improve water quality, reduce environmental health risks, and expand access to the Long Island Sound. Technical assistance is available through LISCIF even for communities or organizations that do not submit a funding proposal.
Project proposals must incorporate Actions of the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). The eligible geographic region includes the Long Island Sound watershed area within New York and Connecticut.
LISCIF’s funding priorities are aligned with the CCMP themes and Actions. For 2027, the main funding themes are:
• Clean Waters and Healthy Watersheds
• Thriving Habitats and Abundant Wildlife
• Sustainable and Resilient Communities
• Informed and Engaged Public
Eligible projects and activities should be community-driven and address one or more of the Fund’s priority areas, including clean waters and healthy watersheds, thriving habitats and abundant wildlife, sustainable and resilient communities, and an informed and engaged public.
Funding may support projects that prevent or reduce pollution; restore targeted coastal habitat; foster diverse and abundant fish, bird, and wildlife populations; strengthen public engagement, knowledge, and stewardship; enhance community resilience and sustainability; advance planning and design for future water quality, habitat restoration, and resilience projects; support community-based science; improve data management and integration; or carry out other EPA-approved activities consistent with Section 119 of the Clean Water Act.
