Up to $25 Million Available for Transportation Safety Projects

The US Department of Transportation has announced the next round of funding for the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. Counties, cities, towns, transit agencies, and other special districts, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and federally recognized Tribal governments are eligible to apply, with applications due June 26th, 2025.

The SS4A program supports the development of acomprehensive safety action planto identify the most significant roadway safety concerns in a community and develop projects that address those concerns. These action plans are required to be in place for implementation grants.

The SS4A program provides funding fortwo grant types: 

  • Planning and Demonstration Grantsto develop, complete, or supplement an Action Plan to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries in a locality, Tribal area, or region. 
  • Implementation Grants to implement projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan to address a roadway safety problem. These can be infrastructural, behavioral, or operational projects. 

According to the Department of Transportation, 

“Combining the FY22FY23, and FY24 awards to date, SS4A has provided $2.9 billion in Federal funding to over 1,600 communities in all 50 States and Puerto Rico. Through this important funding source, USDOT is empowering Tribal, local, and regional efforts to save lives and reduce serious injuries on our roadways.”
