$488 Million In Grants Available for Ports and Intermodal Port Infrastructure

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 2026 Port Development Infrastructure Program (PDIP). The PIDP aims to improve the safety, efficiency, or reliability of goods movement through ports and intermodal connections.

Applications are due June 26, 2026. Eligible applicants include:

  • States
  • Public agencies
  • Special purpose districts with transportation functions
  • Tribal entities
  • Multistate or multijurisdictional groups
  • Public-private partnerships maintaining port facilities
  • Eligible projects must be located within port boundaries, or be directly related to port operations or intermodal connections. 

Projects should do one or more of the following:

  • Improve safety, efficiency, or reliability of loading/unloading or movement of goods
  • Build operational improvements including resilience
  • Perform environmental mitigation (such as electrification, equipment retrofits, or microgrids)
  • Construct infrastructure supporting seafood businesses
  • Planning grants for development-phase activities are also eligible.

Cost sharing requires a non-Federal share of at least 20% of total project costs, with possible exceptions for projects in rural areas or small projects at small ports.
