GZA recently reached the milestone of supporting its clients in the design of more than 100 Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in New York State, with most of them in New York City.
Professional consulting services that GZA can provide to BESS developers include geotechnical engineering, environmental permitting and remediation, site/civil engineering and design, noise-control modeling and compliance, and construction-phase management. GZA has been contracted to work on more than 70 BESS systems that have been installed or are planned to be installed in the New York City boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, and another 30-plus systems elsewhere in New York State.
Anthony Santamaria, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Construction at NineDot Energy, which has worked with GZA on multiple projects including BESS initiatives in New York, said: “GZA has been an outstanding partner, providing expert engineering and environmental services, and demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing energy storage as a cornerstone of modernizing the grid. Together, we look forward to strengthening the resilience and reliability of the City’s energy infrastructure for the benefit of its residents.”
GZA President and CEO Patrick Sheehan said: “On behalf of all their colleagues at GZA, I want to congratulate Dharmil Patel, Gene Bove, and their teams on reaching the exciting milestone of advising our clients on more than 100 BESS projects to date, with more coming every month. BESS installations help make the power grid more reliable and reduce electrical brownouts and blackouts for residential and commercial neighborhoods. Solving the complex challenges of siting them in New York City and other densely developed areas draws deeply on many areas of GZA engineering expertise and experience.”
GZA is a listed BESS consultant by New York’s Battery and Energy Storage Supply Chain and Ecosystem Resource Database, which is overseen by the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST), New Energy New York (NENY), and the National Science Foundation Energy Storage Engine in upstate New York.
