This flavors and fragrances industry leader operates manufacturing plants throughout the U.S., storing, handling, mixing, and shipping chemical components and finished food, consumer, and fine fragrance products for popular brands.

Challenge

Myriad chemicals in solid (dust, fibers, crystals), liquid, aerosol, gas, and vapor form are used at the facilities to create flavors and fragrances. These can present potential inhalation, ingestion, and/or dermal contact hazards for workers, in addition to typical health and safety concerns inherent to any production facility.

Solution

A GZA certified safety professional and other qualified GZA staff provide site-specific industrial hygiene and health and safety consulting, which has included:

  • Training for the client’s Emergency Response Teams (ERT)
  • Worker exposure monitoring for chemical exposures in Personal Breathing Zones (PBZs) and general work areas
  • Monitoring and certifying Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) and laboratory fume hood airflow
  • Monitoring US OSHA General Industry Standards for noise, US OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Recommended Exposure Limits (NIOSH RELs), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Threshold Limit Values (ACGIH TLVs), and client-specific Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs)
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Training
  • USDOT/IATA Shipping/Transportation of Hazardous Materials training

Benefit
