Challenge

Following a change in ownership from the former Larry’s Marina in 2019, The Marina at Amesbury Point required improvements to its waterfront facilities, along with review of existing permits and prior site activities to bring the marina into current regulatory compliance. The improvements were planned in phases, beginning with upgrades to the marina floats and electrical infrastructure and progressing to a broader redevelopment of the waterfront property.

Solution

GZA performed permitting compliance review, historical site research, and design and permitting services for Phase 1 improvements, including reconfiguration of marina floats and gangways and upgrades to the marina’s electrical service. GZA researched prior site uses, improvements, and authorizations to document existing conditions and support regulatory compliance. Following Phase 1, GZA continued as part of the design team for Phase 2, which included removal of existing marina buildings, new utilities and site improvements, and development of a new Marina Operations Building and Waterfront Restaurant Facility. GZA’s multidisciplinary services included geotechnical explorations and reporting, ground improvement design, drawing and submittal review, soil laboratory testing and management, environmental permitting, construction monitoring, and overall site-civil consulting.

Benefit

GZA’s continued involvement provided ownership with coordinated waterfront, geotechnical, environmental, permitting, and site-civil support through multiple phases of marina redevelopment. By addressing legacy permitting and compliance issues while supporting the design and construction of new waterfront and landside improvements, GZA helped advance the property toward a modernized marina facility and expanded waterfront development.
