US Environmental Protection Agency Announces Final Drinking Water Maximum Contaminant Levels for Six Per- and Poly-Fluorinated Substances (PFAS)

On April 10th, the US EPA announced its final Drinking Water Maximum Contaminant Level (MCLs) for six Per-and Poly-Fluorinated substances (PFAS). The EPA regulation establishes MCLs for five individual PFAS (PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, and HFPO-DA, also known as GenX) and an additional MCL for combinations of four PFAS (PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA, and PFBS).

The current analytical methods can measure concentrations of PFAS at and near the MCLs. The EPA has designated Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLGs) of “zero” for PFOA and PFOS.
